Amanjiwo Resort, Bali

Amanjiwo Resort is fashioned out of limestone and takes its inspiration from the surrounding culture of Central Java.

Surrounded by four volcanoes, Amanjiwo sits in the picturesque heart of Central Java. Borobodour, one of the world's most important Buddhist sanctuaries, is a focal point of views from the resort.

There is a restaurant and bar; library, gallery and boutique; swimming pool, massage and beauty centre. Guests activities include cycling, horse riding, elephant safari; meditation; market and temple tours.

From Amanjiwo's entrance, five steps lead to the Bar, a circular salon with columns and drop fans, a coconut-wood bar and acid-etched bronze-drum tables. The Restaurant, with its silver-leaf ceiling, is defined by a double row of stone columns and looks out onto the crescent-shaped Terrace featuring black terrazzo tables and silver-painted rattan chairs with batik cushions.

Indonesian and Western cuisines are served in the dining venues, but the specialty of the house is Makan Malam, a series of classic Javanese dishes served in traditional brass bowls.

A range of Javanese and traditional beauty treatments including facials, massages and cream baths are available at Amanjiwo, some of which incorporate the ancient holistic jamu method of healing. Treatments can be enjoyed in the privacy of guest suites or in the specially-designed spa suite which features twin massage tables and an outdoor bale for relaxing afterwards with spicy ginger tea.

The resort?s 40-metre infinity swimming pool, lined with green tiles and overlooked by banyan trees, is surrounded by rice paddies. Overlooked by sun loungers and umbrellas, it lies adjacent to the Pool Club, a raised and colonnaded semicircular deck where breakfast, light lunches, drinks and snacks are served.

Amanjiwo's gym suite features state-of-the-art fitness equipment including treadmills and cross trainers. A gym instructor can be arranged to provide personalised guidance.

A tennis court is tucked into the Menoreh Hills behind the resort. A thatched-roof bale is ideal for enjoying refreshments.

Wireless broadband connections are available in all resort accommodations and public areas.

Amanjiwo - Room Features.

The 36 Amanjiwo suites (15 with private pools) face down the valley and overlook a montage of rain forested hillsides and cultivated fields.

The suites feature terrazzo flooring, high ceilings, domed roofs and sliding glass doors that open to a garden terrace.

All suites include a thatched-roof bale (pavilion) with a daybed for outdoor lounging and dining. Interiors include a central four-pillar bed on a raised terrazzo platform, sungkai wood screens, coconut wood and rattan furniture, old batik pillows in classic Yogyakarta style and traditional glass paintings.

The bathroom, which runs the length of each suite, includes twin terrazzo-finished vanities and dressing areas, and a sunken outdoor bathtub set in a walled garden.

Ten Borobudur Suites offer picturesque views of Borobudur and the surrounding valley.

The seven Garden Pool Suites and seven Borobudur Pool Suites feature inviting private pools.

The Dalem Jiwo Suite is a discrete compound complete with a private entrance, wraparound terrace and two separate bedrooms, each with stone steps descending to the suite's private swimming pool and its two lounging bales. The 15-metre pool, finished in a green Javanese stone known as hijau danau, is set into the rice fields. The Dalem Jiwo Suite's personal butler, always on call, will arrange all tours and dining options.
